The cycling track

The river Lahn is one of Germany’s natural rivers. The river is meandering on its way from its source to its mouth through nearly untouched nature. The Lahn cycle track is the first German  long distance track which was awarded with four stars by the ADFC.

Almost the whole distance of the cycle track , which has a total length of 245 kilometres, runs next to the bank of the river. As there are only a few gradients, the track is ideal for families with children. The section (about 62 kilometres) from Limburg via Diez, Nassau, Bad Ems to the mouth in Lahnstein is undoubtedly the scenically most beautiful part of the Lahn cycle track and should therefore be presented here.

This section of the Lahn cycle track offers quite a lot of cultural highlights, such as: the romantic old town of Limburg with its cathedral , Diez with its baroque castle “Oranienstein”, the family castle of the lineage of Nassau-Orange in Nassau, and of course the Emperor’s Spa Bad Ems with its impressive historic spa quarter and the unique spa architecture.

 Transport link

From the source to the mouth there are many stations along the cycle trail and thus make the planning of the tour easier. On your tour from Limburg to Lahnstein is this the easiest way to manage the only gradient (length: 7.5 kilometres; height: 233 metres) between Laurenburg and Geilnau: Take your bike with you on the train (free transport for bikes) and a few minutes later you get off the train again. Those who choose the sporty variant will be awarded with fantastic views on the Lahn valley.
